Welcome From Worshipful Master

Welcome to the Marshalltown Masonic Temple website!

As Master of Marshall Lodge #108, I would like to take this time to wish you a prosperous new year and the best of health moving forward.

What is Freemasonry?
Freemasonry is a peculiar system of morality, veiled in allegory, and illustrated by symbols. It is dedicated to making good men better, through the principles of Brotherly Love, Relief and Truth. It is a Brotherhood of men, under the Fatherhood of God. Freemasonry is a way of life!

Freemasonry as we know it today has been around for more than 300 years. It is one of the oldest secular social and charitable organizations in the world, modern Freemasonry’s roots lie in the traditions of the medieval stonemasons who built Europe’s castles and cathedrals.

Marshall Lodge has been around for nearly half that time having received its charter from the Grand Lodge of Iowa in 1857. During that time the lodge has helped many good men become better. Not better than anyone else, but better than they would have been without it.

If you are a brother in good standing (including all travelers) our regular stated meetings are held on the second Thursday of each month at 7:00 pm. There is a meal prior which commences at 6:00 pm. Please feel free to join us in brotherhood. It would be an honor to have you as our guest.

If you are looking to join the world’s greatest fraternity, all you need to do is ask. You can ask me or any other brother you may know about the requirements of becoming a Mason.

Our historic lodge is also home to a York Rite Chapter, as well as Eastern Star and High Twelve.

It is my goal as Master to help navigate the lodge through the pandemic. I have quite a busy schedule planned for all of us and would enjoy some company of my brothers (old, new, and those I do not yet know) along the way.

I invite you to contact us by email or through our business office. Please also “like” us on Facebook.

Fraternally,
Timothy J. Kelley

Why? – Ten Reasons to Become a Mason

A Masonic Lodge is:

  1. A place where you can confidently trust every person and trust your family with them also.
  2. A place where, within moral and civil guidelines; free thought, free speaking and the spiritual growth of man, can grow into its fullest potential.
  3. A place to meet outstanding individuals from all walks of life, that a person would not otherwise have had the opportunity to know and call brother.
  4. A place to be part of an organization which has for its principal tenets – Brotherly Love, Relief and Truth.
  5. A place that provides self-development opportunities, leadership training and experience, and to improve public speaking skills.
  6. A place you can go to seek support as well as give it.
  7.  A place where moral virtues are taught and through these teachings a regular reinforcement of the moral virtues is experienced.
  8.  A place to spend time with a group of brothers, who by acting as good men, make me want to become a better man.  Not better than others, but better than I would have otherwise been.
  9.  A place to become better equipped to serve Church and community.
  10.  A place to meet with established members of the community and to become a part of the community.
